In The Heart of Florence
Great location, near Santa Maria Novella and all major attractions
What they say about us
The hotel is a 10 minute walk from The Duomo, the train station, and within easy walking distance of other attractions.
Rooms acceptable. Rust in the shower, but price good. One coffee pod per person per day, plus a small cake of some sort. But they’ll usually give you a couple of extra, or charge .50 per pod, which is normal elsewhere. Fridge in room. Bed comfy.
Rooftop patio is used by the family. Festivities start at 8 and go on to the wee hours on a weekend night. The night we arrived, there was not a chair to be had or used by anyone not invited to their dinner. Wood fire was festive, but smoke drifted into every room. This is not the place to stay to recover from jet lag. Echoing in halls is also pronounced because of the hard floors. Room came with earplugs, which should have been a sign. A little of that is to be expected at this price.
WiFi nonfunctional throughout 2nd floor. We learned the owner sometimes shuts it off. Ask people at desk and they’ll tell you about the 2nd server.
Lots of return guests. Hotel safe. Just a few blocks from the main Mercado. People will talk to you on the patio. Owners very helpful with tips in person and by email. More
Just a short walk from the train station lies this quiet little property near all the major attractions that Florence is famous for. The rooms are clean and updated, some offering a rooftop terrace, and a chance to meet Cleo the owner's bird as she suns herself outside on nice Tuscan days.
Everything you would want to see - The Duomo, the Uffizi Galleria, The Academia, are easily accessible from this location. The location also is close to the train station which houses many tour opportunities for those who can't walk easily.
But what makes this hotel a special gem are the owners, Carmel and Pino. Their hospitality makes you feel like a visiting friend. If you want to experience the charm and character of Florence, this quaint hotel is the perfect introduction to the city.
Best to book directly with the owners instead of through a travel site. You will get the best personal service that way.
My husband and I stayed three nights at Il Bargellino. We had never been to Florence, so most of our stay involved being away from the hotel. The location is perfect, you’re walking distance to every attraction. Carmel and Pino were great hosts - always providing helpful information and available to call a cab. I felt safe and secure in the establishment. The room is a good size but the bathroom was small. However, for the price, I really shouldn’t complain. Our room was always clean and the patio was nice - I did my makeup outside every morning. If you’re a light sleeper, such as myself, bring earplugs because while the chirping of the birds is a wonderful sound, it is less wonderful at 4 AM. More
I don’t get the bad reviews, we had a lovely stay. The owners are available if needed, but not overbearing. The home is sparkling clean and stunningly retains its features from a time gone by. The eclectic mix of art is superb. It’s easy to throw open the shutters and windows, and be mesmerised by the comings and goings below. Yes, the streets are cleaned early, is that not a good thing! I take earplugs wherever I stay, it just makes sense. The indoor food market is only round the corner, it’s fantastic and upstairs the variety of restaurants are top notch. Will I stay here again- Definitely.
The combination of great location, fantastic hosts, and the large terrace made this a very good choice. Our room was lovely, and was one of those opening onto the terrace. It was wonderful to have no street noise while being in the heart of Florence. The hotel is a short walk from the train station, and walking distance to major sights.
Hosts Carmel and Pino's hospitality was exceptional. Information provided to guests (about special exhibits, major and lesser-known sights, where to buy things, etc.) reflects their attentiveness to guests' questions and needs. Their knowledge about options for transportation to the airport, including the relatively new tram, was very helpful.
This was our third visit to Florence, and we found Hotel Il Bargellino to be a very special accommodation. More
My girlfriend and I stayed here recently. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We particularly enjoyed the terrace for relaxing. The room was fine with a small fridge. Would have been perfect if the room had an en suite. Would definitely stay here again.
Hotel Il Bargellino is just a 10-minute walk from the train station, and only about a minute away from Via Nazionale, but it's on a quiet street away from the crowds. You are only minutes away from the Duomo and within easy walking distance of everything in the historic center of Florence.
The room is quite large, the terrace is lovely, and the hosts are friendly and helpful. The building is old, and I love the high ceilings and marble stairs. Breakfast is not included, but there are plenty of places to eat nearby.
