What they say about us

  •   This was our second stay in this hotel. The easy walking distance from the train station, wonderful hosts and terrace made this once again a very good accommodation choice.
The large terrace is a peaceful oasis where we relaxed with beverages and snacks on a beautiful October afternoon. Guests in all rooms have access to the terrace (including rooms such as ours that don't directly open onto it).
The information that hosts Carmel and Pino provide to their guests is exceptionally helpful and complete, including a booklet in the room (local tips, where to buy things, info on major and less well known sights), pamphlets in the lobby, and their availability to answer questions.
Room 6 was lovely, furnished with antiques. This spacious, comfortable room, with a very large bathroom, was especially appreciated after more than three weeks of traveling.
Thank you again, Carmel and Pino. More

Carmel was an amazing host with excellent knowledge of the local areas and great recommendations for food and activities. We staying in room 8 which opened out onto the terrace (would highly recommend!) which was very spacious and clean. The room had everything we could need including towels and a hairdryer. Excellent location being within a 10 minute walk to the train station and extremely close to the centre of Florence and all of the attractions. Thank you!

  •   I had the best experience staying at Hotel Il Bargellino at the recommendation of friends. Logistically, the hotel is very convenient to both the train station as well as most attractions. The hotel is clean and lovingly decorated and maintained. It really captures the character of the city- particularly the beautiful terrace!

Even better than the hotel, however, are the kind and gracious owners Carmel and Pino. I was traveling alone and they were so welcoming and helpful. It was a really special experience that I won’t forget. I hope I can be lucky enough to return someday.

I recently stayed here for 3 nights in room #2 on the main floor (shared bathroom upstairs). This place was such a treat!! Fantastic hosts, lots of character. This was a great room for solo traveler on a modest budget. Grazie mille!

  •   This is the second time I've stayed here. Carmel and Pino really go the extra mile to make your stay special. The hotel is charming and small. The terrace is beautiful! Espresso on the terrace is a great way to start the day. There's a fancy coffee maker in the room that makes outstanding espresso. They also leave a little donut or danish which is a really nice touch. The location couldn't be better. It's an easy walk to everything. The train station is a short five minute walk. There's too many excellent restaurants within a five minute walk to list. I would never consider staying anywhere else in Florence. I can't wait to return! More

The combination of great location, fantastic hosts, and the large terrace made this a very good choice. Our room was lovely, and was one of those opening onto the terrace. It was wonderful to have no street noise while being in the heart of Florence. The hotel is a short walk from the train station, and walking distance to major sights.

Hosts Carmel and Pino's hospitality was exceptional. Information provided to guests (about special exhibits, major and lesser-known sights, where to buy things, etc.) reflects their attentiveness to guests' questions and needs. Their knowledge about options for transportation to the airport, including the relatively new tram, was very helpful.

This was our third visit to Florence, and we found Hotel Il Bargellino to be a very special accommodation. More

  •   Carmel and Pino are enthusiastic hosts that help make your stay in Florence a great experience. Easily walkable from train station as well as only 10 minutes from the Duomo. Can’t say enough about the great hospitality. Also enjoyed the spacious terrazzo in late afternoons.

The hotel is a 10 minute walk from The Duomo, the train station, and within easy walking distance of other attractions.

Rooms acceptable. Rust in the shower, but price good. One coffee pod per person per day, plus a small cake of some sort. But they’ll usually give you a couple of extra, or charge .50 per pod, which is normal elsewhere. Fridge in room. Bed comfy.

Rooftop patio is used by the family. Festivities start at 8 and go on to the wee hours on a weekend night. The night we arrived, there was not a chair to be had or used by anyone not invited to their dinner. Wood fire was festive, but smoke drifted into every room. This is not the place to stay to recover from jet lag. Echoing in halls is also pronounced because of the hard floors. Room came with earplugs, which should have been a sign. A little of that is to be expected at this price.

WiFi nonfunctional throughout 2nd floor. We learned the owner sometimes shuts it off. Ask people at desk and they’ll tell you about the 2nd server.

Lots of return guests. Hotel safe. Just a few blocks from the main Mercado. People will talk to you on the patio. Owners very helpful with tips in person and by email. More
